In his honor

George’s Wings Scholarship

George Agabekyan · March 20, 1984 — March 20, 2023

A debt repaid in care

A full scholarship to Launch To Wellness, awarded four times a year, in honor of a life that taught us what care should have looked like all along.

Nothing but their story

Four times a year, someone walks through our doors carrying nothing but their story, and walks out carrying a full course of care behind them.

The hand he was denied

Named for a man who never stopped fighting to be seen, George’s Wings extends the hand he was too often denied.

Not a discount. A door.

Not a discount. Not a payment plan. A full scholarship, awarded four times a year, to someone whose need for care outran their ability to pay for it.

Making cost disappear

George’s Wings asks one question before all the others: what would it look like to make cost disappear entirely, four times a year, for someone who needs it most?

So no one waits like he did

An enduring spirit, honored the only way that mattered to the person who built this: by making sure someone else never has to wait the way he did.

What The Scholarship Provides

The Short Answer

Every scholarship program has a reason it exists. Most of the time, that reason is a mission statement. Ours is a person.

Before George’s Wings was a line item in our admissions process, it was a promise Larisa made to her brother’s memory, and it’s still the reason this program works the way it does.

We could have built a general financial-aid fund and called it a day. We didn’t, because that isn’t what this is. George’s Wings is named after someone specific, awarded to real people whose names we know, and shaped by what one family learned the hard way about how often cost, not need, decides who gets to heal. If you read one story on this page before you read anything else, this is the one that explains why the rest of it exists.

By the Numbers

George’s Wings, at a Glance

Four scholarships a year isn’t a large number, and it’s meant to stay that way. Each one is awarded with real care, not processed like an application queue.

How it works

Apply for George’s Wings

Most scholarship applications are built to filter people out. This one is built to let people in. There is no portal to get lost in, no checklist of eligibility criteria to measure yourself against before you dare to ask. Applying is a conversation with our team, and every conversation has to begin somewhere honest: with your story, told in your own words, at your own pace.

That is the whole design. George’s Wings exists because someone we loved ran out of time waiting for a system that made him prove himself worthy of care before it would give him any. We built this program to refuse that logic outright. You do not have to arrive polished. You do not have to have the right words yet. You only have to be telling the truth about what you need, and we will meet you there, fully, without a form standing between your voice and the person who reads it.

  1. Tell us your story.

Reach out and tell us what’s going on, what care you need, and what’s been standing in the way of getting it. Write as much or as little as feels right. This is the heart of the application, not a formality before the “real” part.

  2. We talk it through.

A member of our team follows up directly, by phone, to hear more and answer any questions.

  3. We assess clinical fit.

Every George’s Wings recipient goes through the same clinical intake as every other client.

  4. We let you know, and we stay in it with you either way.

Scholarships are awarded four times a year. If timing doesn’t line up and your need is urgent, tell us — we’ll talk through what else might be possible.

A note from the founder | George’s Wings | Launch To Wellness

“As someone who has personally experienced the deep pain of healing and found the courage to embrace change and growth, I understand the challenges you may be facing.”

Why Launch To Wellness — What Makes Our Approach Different | Launch To Wellness

Our approach

What Makes Our Approach Different

If you are comparing outpatient treatment centers in Los Angeles, you have already seen the same three phrases on every site: compassionate staff, evidence-based care, individualized attention. All of it is usually true, and none of it helps you choose.

Here is what distinguishes Launch To Wellness, an outpatient mental health and substance use treatment center in Woodland Hills serving the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles, described specifically enough that you can ask us about any of it before you decide.

  • Co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions are addressed in one treatment plan by one team. You will not be told your depression is out of scope, or that you need to get sober first before anyone will treat your trauma. Both are worked on from day one.

  • Your therapist, psychiatric provider, and case manager work in the same Woodland Hills building and stay in the same conversation about your care. Clinical staff meet regularly to review each client’s progress, so your plan changes when your situation changes rather than six weeks later.

  • We do not run everyone through the same sequence of worksheets. Your treatment plan is built from your clinical assessment, your history, your goals, and what has already failed you. Two people in the same program on the same day are often working on very different things.

  • Outpatient treatment means you practice what you learn where it actually matters, which is at home, at work, and with your family. Skills are tested against real life every evening and reviewed the next day. For many adults that is not a compromise, it is the more durable path.

  • Recovery rarely happens in isolation, and families often need support of their own. Family education and involvement are offered as part of the treatment plan, with your consent and on your terms.

  • For adults whose depression has not responded to medication, transcranial magnetic stimulation is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared option for treatment-resistant depression. Having TMS therapy available in house means we can change course without sending you somewhere else.

  • Your progress is tracked with validated clinical assessments at regular intervals, not only by how you describe your week. When the measures stop moving, your treatment plan changes.

What the scholarship actually covers

What Winning George’s Wings Means

When someone is awarded George’s Wings, cost stops being part of their decision. The scholarship covers the full course of their treatment plan at Launch To Wellness, start to finish. Nothing about their care gets scaled back, shortened, or held back because of what they can or can’t pay.

This isn’t a partial credit or a reduced rate applied to a bill. It’s the entire plan our clinical team builds for that person, covered in full, for as long as their treatment calls for it.
